These eighteen photographs of an abandoned farmhouse and barn were made during a walk in early Spring outside Beacon, NY, c. 1960. The place was barely visible from a small country road. What drew me in was the spirit of nature taking over, the newly-emerged flowers and grasping vines entangling the door, windows and walls. Decaying furniture, a rusted oil lantern, a tiny stub of old candle in the basket-clad Chianti bottle beside it - all the images raised inevitable questions: who had lived here, where did the inhabitants go, and why?
